Empowering Women Through Data: Highlights from KG Hospital’s Workshop with Prof. A. Rajagopal of A R Analytics and Esteemed Guests

KG Hospital and Post Graduate Medical Institute, Coimbatore, organized a pivotal workshop titled “Data Science for Decision Support in Women’s Welfare (DD for WW)” on Saturday, marking a significant step toward improving women’s health outcomes through advanced data science tools and methodologies.

The event was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the kuthuvilakku, symbolizing the beginning of the workshop. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Chandrakala Maran, followed by the presidential address by Dr. G. Bakthavathsalam, Chairman of KG Hospital, setting the stage for an insightful day.

The workshop was graced by Hon’ble Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Former Governor of Puducherry and Telangana, as the Chief Guest. In her keynote address, Dr. Soundararajan highlighted the crucial role that data science can play in decision-making to support women’s health and welfare. She emphasized that women’s health and nutrition are key determinants of the progress of future generations. She also underscored the importance of regular health checkups for early diagnosis and effective treatment of illnesses.

Dr. N. Rajamaheswari, Managing Director of the Advanced Center for Urogynaecology in Chennai, served as the Guest of Honor. She discussed the pressing issue of urinary and fecal incontinence among women, particularly in her session titled “Breaking the Silence: The Hidden High Prevalence of Urinary and Fecal Problems among Healthy Women.” Her presentation shed light on the often-overlooked but critical health challenges faced by women.

The Special Guest, Dr. D.M. Christe, an active member of the International Gynecology Cancer Society, presented a session on the “Scope of Analytics & Research in the Healthcare Ecosystem in India,” which explored the vast potential of data science and analytics in improving the healthcare sector.

Key speakers including Prof. A. Rajagopal spoke on “Data Science in Decision Support in Women’s Welfare,” and Dr. Chandrakala Maran, presented a comparison of pregnancy outcomes during the pre-COVID and COVID periods.

The workshop showcased the value of data and advanced analytics in clinical decision-making. Technical papers presented throughout the day underscored the role of predictive and prescriptive analytics in guiding clinical decisions, ensuring better healthcare outcomes. These methodologies highlighted the ability of data-driven approaches to support more precise and timely interventions in women’s healthcare.

One of the highlights of the workshop was a video on the Intellectual Property Rights “KgHariChandRa” prediction of fetal weight, presented by Dr. Chandrakala Maran, Dr. Harini, and Prof. A. Rajagopal. This was followed by an insightful presentation by Dr. N. Rajamaheswari on a machine-learning software-based prediction of urinary tract infections (UTI) in pregnancy using simple urine tests without culture.

Discussions extended to other critical topics such as the influence of parity and mode of delivery on urinary incontinence, employing Bayesian approaches for research, and strategies for minimizing Mycophenolic acid AUC in renal transplants. Dr. Illangovan Veerappan presented new approaches in optimizing Mycophenolic acid, while Dr. Vijayakumar shared insights on the learning curve for postgraduate students in jugular vein cannulation for CABG patients. Dr. S. Sabareesh wrapped up the sessions with a case series on carotid artery interventional radiology.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by high tea, marking the end of a fruitful day of knowledge-sharing and collaboration among leading experts in the field of women’s health and data science.

This event underscored the importance of integrating data science, particularly predictive and prescriptive analytics, into healthcare decision-making processes, especially in the context of women’s health. KG Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to advancing healthcare research and innovation, offering a promising outlook on the future of healthcare.
